Our Water Sample Collection Station

Water samples for E. coli Bacteria Quantitube® field testing were procured from the waters pictured above. These waters are a reliable and consistent source for low count recovery of E. coli Bacteria from High-Sensitivity 5 ml samples. Our baseline for this evaluation of the recovery of E. coli Bacteria using the E. coli Quantitube® Test from these waters was done using Easygel® Coliscan® media Petri dish tests, repeated over the course of the last 12 months.

Performance of the E. coli Bacteria Quantitube® Test compared to Easygel® Coliscan® media Petri dish tests.

The E. coli Quantitube® Test out performed the Easygel® Coliscan® media Petri dish in three areas: recovery time, ease of use and unit cost per test. These are the main advantages of the E.coli Quantitube® Test. The recovery of E.coli and Coliform bacteria by both the E.coli Quantitube® and the Coliscan® media compliant Petri dish were compared and are equal in sensitivity of recovery.

QUANTITUBE® BACTERIAL MEDIA The following types of Qunatitube® bacterial media are available and should be chosen based upon the needs of the user: E. coli/Quantitube® Medium This medium indicates and identifies the presence of E. coli in a test sample. The E. coli form small,dark teal green colonies with a teal halo, while other members of the Enterobacteriaceae grow as dark red colonies without a halo. For optimum results, the medium should be incubated at a temperature of 35 C, and results counted at 24-48 hrs. The teal green color (from the chromogenic substrate used) is specific for the enzyme glucuronidase, which is virtually exclusively found in E. coli among the coliforms. Total Count Quantitube Medium This medium will provide a heterotrophic count of all types of bacteria present in a sample. The bacteria will grow as small red colonies and will normally be countable in 24-36 hours if incubated at an optimum temperature. Suggested general temperature is 30 C.
